Rutherford was the home of Davy Crockett prior to his departure to Texas and his tragic death at the Alamo on March 6, 1836. Here you can visit the replica of his cabin (built with logs from the original cabin) and the grave of his mother, Rebecca Hawkins Crockett. Rutherford celebrates their famous frontiersman with a festival in early October each year with old-fashioned music, arts and crafts, costumes and a parade.

For more information on this event, please see the ACTIVITIES & EVENTS section. For more information on the Davy Crockett Cabin (hours of operation, history, events) visit the website at www.davycrockettcabin.org

Rutherford boasts a city park and a public swimming pool (contact city hall for hours of operation). The town is also very proud of the multiple small businesses who call Rutherford home. Pate's Department store has been an integral piece to main street since 1944 selling mens and womens clothing and shoes, boots, jewelry, and much more.  The China Grove Country Store Bakery & Deli, located a few miles east of town, is becoming famous for its whole-earth foods. Owned by a local Mennonite family, the store features homemade cheese, bakery products and weekly meat specials. Contact the store for hours of operation - (731) 665-7431.
